What is Printed Site Hoarding

What is printed site hoarding? And why should your business invest in it?

So what is hoarding?

Site hoarding is the panelling surrounding a construction site and provides safety, security, and protection for the public and construction workers. Printed site hoarding is typically made of wood or composite aluminium. Large format printers and cut vinyl are used to add designs and information. MJCP uses direct printing for hoarding, as this ensures the best possible results and fastest turnaround.

Printed site hoarding forms a 2m tall barrier, which is tough, durable and acts as a deterrent to keep people out of the construction site and away from harmful tools and materials. They also provide a screen so as not to disrupt the surrounding area visually, and keep dust and debris to a minimum.

As well as creating a safe environment, printed site hoarding is also an excellent marketing tool

Many individuals consider building sites to be unattractive. So, instead of using wire fencing, many companies choose to install well-designed, intentional printed site hoarding. As well as raising brand awareness, it doubles up as an attractive advertisement. Construction projects usually take anywhere from months to years, so make the most of what you have available. Printed site hoarding offers a fantastic alternative to wasting precious time and money on expensive ad campaigns, or buying temporary billboards that may not get the amount of impressions you want.

Why should your business invest in quality hoarding?

Site hoarding is a legal requirement in urban and rural areas, as the safety of the public and the workers on site is of the utmost importance. There are a lot of rules and regulations involved with site hoarding installation, such as restrictions on size, location, and material. Our professional hoarding print and installation team will be able to advise you if you’re unsure. You can contact MJCP for more information here

Practically, site hoarding limits access to only a few specified points, shelters equipment and materials safely away, and protects the surrounding area from dust, debris, and unsightly areas of the site.

Visually, hoarding can be used to do all sorts of positive things for your business, your partners, and the community you’re working in.

At its most basic, printed hoarding can be used for wayfinding purposes. The public will appreciate you providing information about alternative footpaths, and directions to important locations in the area if their usual route is closed off. Community engagement is very important. Through printed informational hoarding, you can build a positive brand reputation and raise awareness of your business. Site information boards, which might include a point of contact, can be great for the public to let you know if something isn’t quite right, or inform residents and commuters about planned works and any further disruptions.

Even local businesses might want to make use of your site hoarding. Often, they’ll be very keen to advertise whether it simply be their brand, or for wayfinding and guiding potential customers to their location. Traditional advertising like billboards and digital ads are expensive, and often feature multiple companies at a time, reducing impressions. Printed hoardings however, are visible 24/7, in a static format. Offering ad space on your hoarding to the surrounding businesses could be a very effective marketing strategy, building relationships and trust.

What is printed site hoarding made with?

Generally, printed site hoarding is constructed from timber or composite aluminium, as we covered earlier. While wooden panelling is often cheaper and easier to source, finding a printer that can design and print wooden panelling can be a bit of a pain. Here at MJCP, we offer direct printing to all kinds of wood based materials, from plywood to OSB board. The alternative is CA, which is printed and installed in separate panels then attached to the hoardings.

As site hoarding is a safety hazard if improperly built, they're subject to safety criteria. These restrictions include caps on size and durability. Heavy winds, vehicular impacts, and pedestrian interaction are all potential issues if your hoarding isn’t sturdy enough.

MJCP offers a comprehensive project management service, from concept and design to print through installation
